Hilda's Twilight

Without a doubt, Hilda's Twilight Thursday Golf is the most enjoyable and successful event in the Club.

The event is named after its founder, Hilda Blitch.  Back in 1984, she was asked to organize some program that would encourage members to attend the Thursday night dinners.  She suggested a nine hole mixed golf event with the privilege of coming to dinner in golf attire.  Thus the Twilight was born!

The very first Twilight was on May 23, 1985.  It started out as an every other week affair.  But its popularity was almost instantaneous and quickly became an every Thursday institution.

Success, however, was not achieved without the dedicated effort of Hilda.  She called everyone to play, arranged foursomes and found partners for the singles.  She has continued this kind of effort up to her retirement at the end of the 2002 season.

In 1986 she added a scramble format to the Twilight and it has proven to be a popular event.

1987-88 were trying times and attendance suffered, and after a particularly poor attendance of 32 people we were going to "bury the hatchet" and get back to the fun and friendship that has been the hallmark of Wildcat.  It worked!

1989 through to the present, have been a continuous period of growth and fun.  Hilda's Twilight has been fine tuned to what you see today.  It was so popular that we once had 34 foursomes but found the play to slow that we now limit it to 32 foursomes.

Hilda has brought imagination, spontaneity, humor and hard work to her job of running the Thursday Twilights.  A responsibility she says "has been one of the most memorable and rewarding things I have ever done".

We thank her for a job well done!
